Highbridge Human Capital is delighted to be working with the Adams Lake Band in the search for an Assistant Controller. The Adams Lake Indian Band (ALIB) belongs to the Secwepemc Nation. ALIB is a member of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC); which consists of nine Secwepemc Bands.
The Adams Lake Indian Band Office strives to provide services for band members, consistent with the band’s vision and mission. The Chief and Council provide the political leadership and guidance to the Executive Director and managers, regarding programs and services for the benefit of community members.
Over the past decades, ALIB has grown tremendously, which has driven the charge for significant changes within the community. The band has developed new tools to deliver services in a changing world, which has resulted in greater and more varied opportunities to create and advance band programs, develop economic initiatives, and to provide meaningful employment to more individuals and families.
The Opportunity:
The Adams Lake Indian Band is currently seeking an experienced and knowledgeable professional to join their team as an Assistant Controller. Reporting to and under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Assistant Controller will be the Supervisor of the Finance Department staff. As the Assistant Controller you have already developed your professional acumen and are now looking to make meaningful impact supporting other accounting officers within Adams Lake Indian Band.

As the ideal Candidate you have a passion for sharing your technical knowledge with other Finance Staff and will focus on value added to Adams Lake Indian Band. You possess strong communication skills, and are able to build relationships, carrying yourself in a professional and supportive manner.
A day in the life of the Assistant Controller
Role and Responsibilities:
As the Assistant Controller, you will:
- Mentor and train Accounting Officers in Finance department.
- Ensure delivery of high -quality financial product that is technically sound and in compliance with ALIB and external reporting standards.
- Perform detailed review of reconciliations, supporting schedules and other reports.
- Ensure journal entries and transactions are posted appropriately.
- Supervise Accounting Officers and assisting in daily accounting tasks.
- Perform general ledger reconciliations including bank reconciliations, payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable.
- Work with CFO on other projects as require.
- Provide valuable insight and feedback to CFO and other accounting officers.
- Perform full cycle accounting tasks.
- Ensure compliance with ALIB internal controls and supporting Natural Resources Finance Assistant and Project Accountant.
- Prepare audit and year end working papers for auditors.
Requirements
- 5 years or more of accounting experience.
- 2 years of supervisor experience.
- Post- secondary education from a recognized institution.
- A CPA/CGA/CMA designation Preferred.
- Consideration for CAFM and Accounting degree/ Accounting Diploma.
- Proficiency in cloud -based accounting software such as Adagio, Paydirt and HR Info System.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- High degree of critical thinking and analytical skills.
- Interpersonal skill is a great asset.
- Ability to interpret technical financial data into a layman terminology.
