The Organization:

Founded in 2017, We Are One Composites is a locally owned and operated composite manufacturing company focused on production of the highest quality mountain bike products including carbon rims and our new full mountain bike, The Arrival. We Are One Composites is a proud Canadian manufacturer pioneering the composite manufacturing space in the mountain bike industry. We are One is growing manufacturing capability in Kamloops; elements of design, engineering, machining, prototyping, testing and manufacturing are all done in-house.

We Are One is currently looking for an Operations Managerto direct and manage the organization’s manufacturing activities. The ideal candidate will have strong operational management experience with a proven track record of effectively planning, delegating, coordinating, staffing and organizing the manufacturing aspect of business activities and departments. Your main objective will be to utilize your entrepreneurial spirit and vision in directing business functions to reach a higher level of performance and productivity, while providing team leadership and development.

About you:

To succeed in this role, you must be highly organized and hard working. You are also comfortable identifying and executing change initiatives, maintaining and enhancing existing process, and developing people in a fast-moving environment.

A Day in the life of the Operations Manager role and responsibilities:

The primary objective of the Operations Manageris to manage and maintain operations, while proactively implementing processes and systems, developing staff, and building and implementing effective strategies and programs to improve the overall quality and productivity of the manufacturing component of the business. You will:

  • Maintain overall responsibility of the manufacturing component of the business
  • Evaluate, analyze, recommend and implement enhancements to existing workflows, methods and processes to increase productivity and effectiveness while being mindful of cost control
  • Monitor and manage operational costs and financial activities; providing insight, expertise and suggestions to management team
  • Develop and maintain accurate and effective measurement systems to measure and report on materials, labour and other measures of operational performance
  • Conduct meetings with department managers to discuss activities and problems of mutual interest and to develop strategies for a more efficient operations
  • Adapt departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Monitor the company’s operations, processes, and procedures to ensure that they comply with the regulations and standards
  • Hire, train, motivate and regularly monitor performance of staff
  • Act as a hands-on manager, coaching, motivating, inspiring and mentoring staff
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with team members, strive for harmony and teamwork across all departments
  • Develop and maintain a workplace culture that is aligned with the Company’s vision and values in respect to worker safety

Requirements – what you bring to the company:

  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive operations experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years of management experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related technical field or combination of education/relevant work experience
  • Deep knowledge of the methodology and tools used in Six Sigma and Lean. Six Sigma Green Belt certification an asset
  • Strong knowledge of various business functions including manufacturing, logistics, and quality assurance
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to be hands-on and proactive
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Highly conscientious and attentive; uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions
  • The ability to communicate in a positive, confident, and respectful manner to internal and external stakeholders
  • Self-motivated
  • Strong organizational skills, high attention to detail, ability to multi-task and exercise sound judgment
