The Organization:

Highbridge Human Capital is delighted to be working with the Adams Lake Band in the search for a Human Resources Generalist. The Adams Lake Band (ALB) belongs to the Secwepemc Nation. ALB is a member of the Shuswap Nation Tribal Council (SNTC). which consists of nine Secwepemc Bands.

The Adams Lake Band Office strives to provide services for band members, consistent with the band’s vision and mission. The Chief and Council provide the political leadership and guidance to the Executive Director and managers, regarding programs and services for the benefit of community members.

Over the past decades, ALB has grown tremendously, which has driven the charge for significant changes within the community. The band has developed new tools to deliver services in a changing world, which has resulted in greater and more varied opportunities to create and advance band programs, develop economic initiatives, and to provide meaningful employment to more individuals and families.

The Opportunity:

Adams Lake Band Office is currently looking for an experienced HR Generalist to oversee the daily human resources operations and needs of our managers and employees.This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for a dynamic and professional working environment where you can make a difference.

Reporting to and under the general direction of the Executive Director, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing full-cycle recruitment administration, managing employee relations concerns, coordination and support of the performance evaluation process, compensation analysis and recommendations, supporting health and safety initiatives, and other ad hoc HR related tasks.

A day in the life of the Human Resources Generalist

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Human Resources Generalist, you will:

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Band policies and procedures.
  • Acts as the main point of contact for employees on Human Resources topics.
  • Support department managers with reviews and evaluations, in coordination with annual budget, to make recommendations and/or proposals related to new positions.
  • Support the entirety of the recruitment process, including job description revisions or development, posting, screening, interviewing, reference checks, job offers and onboarding.
  • Manage complex employee relations issues, complaints and grievances, and oversees investigations.
  • Support and advise managers regarding employee terminations.
  • Lead in the development, maintenance and updates of the Adams Lake Band Employee Handbook and any other relevant policies, in accordance with applicable labour standards legislation.
  • Communicate effectively with all employees to ensure understanding and compliance to the Adams Lake Band Employee Handbook and any other relevant policies.
  • Manage, coordinate, and ensure the appropriate reviews, analyses and actions are clearly understood by all staff with regards to performance management and grievances process within the Employee Guidelines.
  • Lead in the development, maintenance and updates of the Band Recognition and Rewards program.
  • Oversee and ensure the timely commencement of Staff Activity days involving all staff.
  • Manage, coordinate and ensure accuracy of data for the Personnel files.
  • Maintain and update the employee evaluation tool as required.
  • Provide advice, recommendations and support rational to the Executive Director on issues relating to human resource topics and strategies.
  • Collaborate with other departments to deliver services to the community.
  • Support internal development of employees through the identification and implementation of continuing education to meet ongoing professional needs of the Adams Lake Band/ALDC department staff.
  • Develop and maintain accurate reports and management files.
  • Work with the Finance Director and Executive Director in the development, administration and maintenance of an operational budget for the Human Resources Administration Program.
  • Liaise with other organizations, Bands and professionals on human resources and work environment issues and solutions, e.g. labour law and human rights issues.
  • Researche and develop proposals for grant and funding opportunities. within the Human Resource requirements.
  • Liaise and communicate with external government agencies, businesses, funding agencies, customers and suppliers so as to maximize the effectiveness of the Human Resources Administration Program and the Adams Lake Band/ALDC.
  • Contribute as necessary to the Comprehensive Community Strategic Plan.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of Human Resource Generalist experience
  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Human Resources or relative area, considered an asset
  • Possess the Chartered Professional in Human Resources designation (CPHR) or working towards, considered an asset
  • Dependable Motor Vehicle with current valid insurance
  • Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check
  • Valid BC Drivers License
  • Possess strong computer skills using MS Word, Excel
