Our Client is currently seeking an exceptionally talented business leader with entrepreneurial spirit to be their Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and elevate the financial function within the company. This exciting opportunity encompasses multiple facets of the modern CFO, and the role will act as a steward and operator, strategist and a catalyst. The right person for this position will be extremely insightful, financially savvy, and a great communicator. They will bring deep experience in finance and accounting from the mining/natural resources industry to inform decision-making and mentor others in the operating company to gain this skill.

The CFO will join the executive leadership team and will work with the Smithers, BC, head office. The role of the CFO will be to provide the executive leadership team with critical financial information needed to identify and pursue optimal growth strategies across the full business.




Reporting to the President, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for the developing, implementing and monitoring financial strategies, policies, procedures and systems to support the company’s continued sustainable growth plan. As a member of the Leadership Team, the CFO is responsible for helping to set the strategic direction, establishing the company’s mission, vision, values and goals, and for effectively communicating that strategy across the organization and ensuring implementation of the strategy.  The CFO works closely with the Leadership and Management team to create reports and provide analysis of data that is meaningful, timely and clearly presented to support the work of the team. The CFO ensures that proper accounting controls are in place to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of company-related financial results, provide company and financial planning, reporting for affiliate companies and other accounting practices.  The CFO uses strong relationship building, collaboration, continuous improvement and communication skills and provides professional representation of the company at all times.  In addition, the CFO promotes and implements the company’s Management Systems to support maximum efficiencies throughout company operations.


A Day in the Life of the Chief Financial Officer:


As a member of the leadership team, the primary objective of the CFO is to lead the financial strategy and operations of the Company. This role is responsible for leading the reporting and analytics capabilities to guide strategic decision making to drive strong financial performance. As a senior leader of the organization, you will live and breathe the organization values and incorporate them into how you lead.

  • You will be accountable for leading the financial reporting and compliance for the organization. This includes:
    • Overseeing financial statement preparation
    • Supervising preparation and distribution of quarterly equipment costing
    • Monitoring and analyzing monthly operating results against budget
    • Ensuring compliance with government regulations and accounting standards
    • Coordinating financial audits and incorporate recommendations for procedural improvements
    • Ensuring that sufficient financial reporting is provided to each departmental manager for decision making on a minimum monthly basis
  • You will elevate the finance function and provide key financial analysis to shape management decisions and inform leadership on the strategic direction of the organization. You will:
    • Manage the preparation of financial outlooks and forecasts
    • Prepare ad hoc financial analysis for contract negotiations, investment decisions, and other reasons, as required
    • Development financial models for growth strategies including acquisitions, partnerships, divisions, and major projects
  • You assist in formulating the company’s financial future direction and support tactical initiatives.
  • You will lead the near- and long-term budgeting process and coach managers in the financial acumen necessary to lead their lines of business.
    • Direct financial planning and budget management functions
    • Coordinate and compile annual budget with input from management team.
  • Managing and providing mentorship to your team, you will lead the overall finance and accounting function through compliance and reporting activities.
    • Responsible for all finance and accounting department functions
    • Design, establish, and maintain an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the departments goals and objectives
    • Optimize accounting and administrative functions
    • Track cash flow and ensure financial needs of the corporation are met
    • Recommend measures to improve work methods
    • Mentor/coach and develop staff
    • Hire and supervise training of new employees
  • You will develop and monitor department and organization KPI’s used to gauge performance in terms of meeting strategic and operational goals.
    • Recommend benchmarks for measuring the financial and operating performance of the company, divisions, and projects
    • Monitor and report corporate KPI performance
  • You provide leadership to financial operations and oversee; payroll delivery, filings with financial organizations, support of contract negotiations, and execution of key transactions.

QUALIFICATIONS: What you bring to the Company:


  • You are an expert at engaging with people and building alliances in order to get all the information and support you need to transform business practices that help the company. Throughout your career, you have demonstrated skills in leadership, management, and collaboration. To succeed, the CFO must be able to build trust and transparency with the business unit heads.
  • You lead through building trust and inspiring people to be bold.
  • You have 7-10 years of experience in General Ledge Accounting Management functions for a multinational company with significant revenue.
  • Accounting and Finance experience in Diamond Drilling, Mining or a related industry is preferred.
  • Financial modeling a must. Sound understanding of metrics.
  • You are a seasoned professional with a minimum of ten+ years in a Senior Financial Leadership role who has previously held positions in fast paced and complex manufacturing environments.
  • You are a professional preferably holding qualifications such as CPA/CFA. You have proven financial operating experience in a growth-stage manufacturing company.
  • You are an experienced executive who has worn multiple hats and can both analyze and act with equal ease. You have a strong ability to multitask, rather than being a pure analyst or thinker.
  • In prior roles, you have succeeded by leveraging your BS/MA degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics and you bring an advanced understanding of financial statistics and accounting principles mixed with strong analytical and operational skills.
  • You have strong decision-making skills and the determination to see projects through to the end. Able to deliver near-term wins while building towards a larger strategic vision.
  • You demonstrate a high level of integrity, strong interpersonal skills, the ability to build consensus, and put a strong emphasis on responsibility and accountability.
  • You anticipate and plan for changes to current organizational policies, practices, systems, etc. needed to move in new strategic directions and to ensure long-term success.
  • You are experienced with construction and service providers to large projects.
  • You are available for Domestic and International travel as necessary and are to maintain a current and valid passport
