THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our client Nahanni Construction Ltd. is hiring a Site Superintendent to oversee and coordinate all on-site activities to ensure the successful execution and completion of large-scale and complex water and wastewater treatment plant projects. Reporting to the Project Manager, your role will be crucial in maintaining a safe and efficient work environment, adhering to project timelines, quality standards, and meeting project expectations. You will work closely with various stakeholders, including senior leadership, project managers, subcontractors, and regulatory authorities, to ensure that construction activities are carried out smoothly and in accordance with project plans and specifications.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Construction Supervision:
- Provide on-site leadership and supervision to construction crews, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Oversee daily construction activities, ensuring compliance with safety protocols and quality standards.
- Coordinate and manage all resources, equipment, and materials required for projects.
- Attend pre-construction/construction meetings and advise Project Manager of any anticipated future concerns.
- Review and approve documentation for cost-plus labor, material and equipment (LME) on a daily basis and return documentation to Site Administrator.
- Review subcontractor and supplier invoices against field purchase orders and report any discrepancies to Project Manager or Accounting Department.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce strict adherence to safety procedures and regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
- Conduct regular safety meetings and ensure that all workers and contractors follow safety guidelines.
- Conduct or assign someone to conduct daily and weekly toolbox safety meetings.
- Monitor the project site for potential hazards and take proactive measures to prevent accidents.
Quality Control:
- Ensure that construction work meets the required quality standards and adheres to project specifications.
- Conduct regular inspections and quality checks to identify and address any deviations promptly.
Project Coordination:
- Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to align construction activities with the overall project schedule.
- Initiate, coordinate, direct and evaluate plans, schedules and site personnel to ensure project goals are met.
- Monitor daily allocation of labor, equipment and materials.
- Coordinate with teams to resolve technical challenges and ensure accurate implementation of designs.
Resource Management:
- Optimize the utilization of manpower, equipment, and materials to achieve project efficiency.
- Track and manage the inventory of construction materials, ensuring timely procurement and delivery.
Progress Reporting:
- Prepare and present regular updates on project progress to Project Managers and other key stakeholders.
- Confer with Project Manager and Site Engineer regarding percentage complete.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all construction activities.
Problem-Solving:
- Address and resolve any construction-related challenges, conflicts, or delays promptly.
- Identify potential bottlenecks or risks and work proactively to mitigate them.
- Provide solutions and recommendations for effectively completing tasks.
Environmental Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and implement measures to minimize environmental impacts.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE ORGANIZATION:
Requirements:
- 10 years of experience with on-site coordination and management of multiple subcontractors and suppliers, control of work areas, and quality control on large-scale and complex water and wastewater treatment plant projects.
- Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience working on similar projects or related to the construction industry.
- Submission of two project examples working on similar projects within the last 15 years.
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, and techniques.
- Proficient in project management and construction software. MS Project, MS Word, Excel
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships.
- Strong leadership abilities, with the capacity to motivate and inspire team members to achieve project goals.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Proven experience in:
- Ensuring compliance with environmental, health and safety policies, regulations and acts.
- Demonstrating leadership to all parties on project sites (in a remote camp setting), including managing field resources and all sub trades to complete their portion of work safely, on-time and to an acceptable standard of quality.
- Developing site work schedules.
- Organizing and presiding over regular safety meetings.
- Maintaining a safe, organized, and clean site.
Valuable Assets:
- Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- Valid certification as First Line Supervisor or equivalent.
- Demonstrated experience in managing construction projects in northern and/or remote settings, including in-depth problem solving and working with multiple construction crews.
